All current 鶹madou students and staff can use the Eduroam and Uniwide Wi-Fi networks on campus.Visitors can use the 鶹madou Guest network to have a wireless connection to the 鶹madou Campuses.

These networks provide fast and secure internet access in many locations across 鶹madou.Please note that the Eduroam network will become the primary 鶹madou network for staff, students and guests.

The Eduroam network will become the primary Wi-Fi network provided by 鶹madou for students, staff and guests.

If you're a staff member or student working at the Hospital Precinct, or other affiliate institutions, please use the Eduroam network.

Where multiple eduroam Wi-Fi networks overlap, look for eduroam-鶹madou to access 鶹madou’s Wi-Fi.Follow the self-help guide below to connect to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network.

Eduroam

The Eduroam network will become the primary 鶹madou network for students, staff and guests.

Once enrolled at 鶹madou, students and staff can use the Eduroam service not only on the university's campuses across Australia and overseas but also when working from affiliate locations like the Hospital Precinct.

Wi-Fi for guests

Visitors who do not have Eduroam credentials can access Wi-Fi at 鶹madou by connecting to the 鶹madou Guest Network.

Uniwide

Eduroam is the preferred and primary Wi-Fi network provided by 鶹madou. Students and staff can still use Uniwide for campus Wi-Fi access until it is retired in December 2024.

Uniwide uses your zID and password to authenticate. For a detailed guide on how to configure your device please refer to the self-help guides provided below.

Wired and wireless access for specialty devices

Students and staff can connect specialty devices to the network across campus and within the 鶹madou residential colleges.

Support for guests

  • In order to connect to the guest wi-fi network please follow the steps below:

    Step 1 -Navigate to Wi-Fi settings and connect to the '鶹madou Guest' Network.

    Step 2 -You will be redirected to a registration screen and be asked to provide your name and e-mail details. You will also need to accept the T&Cs and Privacy Statement before proceeding.If you are not automatically redirected to this portal, go to the following link:

    Step 3 -After clicking Register, you will then land on a welcome screen, which says you have temporary (approximately five minutes) access, before being redirected to the 鶹madou home page. You will need to promptly navigate to your mail account to get the activation link.

    Step 4 -Use the Activation Link from the email to activate the access:

    Step 5 -You will land on a confirmation screen asking you to confirm (or reject) Wi-Fi access

    Step 6 -After choosing, you will be redirected to a final screen confirming or denying Wi-Fi access to your device. You will have one weekof continuous access. After that time, you can repeat the registration process as often as you wish:

    Reminder –鶹madou staff and students should not connect to 鶹madou Guestas it has restricted access. If you are a staff or student please connect to the Eduroam Network.

  • Invalid Registration Token

    If you receive an 'Invalid Registration Token' error after clicking the activation link then the link has expired. Complete the registration againand wait for a new activation link to be sent:


    The portal is not loading properly
    • If the portal is not loading properly, try the linkor the appropriate browser specific captive URL link:

    on different browsers and try clearing cookies/cache (NOTE - the above links will only work while connected to the 鶹madou Guest Wi-fi network)


    Issue connecting to the verification site

    If you are having connection issues, check that wi-fi is enabled on the device, check their signal strength, try disabling/re-enabling wi-fi, try forgetting/reconnecting to the network, try checking that DHCP is enabled (where possible) and releasing/renewing their IP address (where possible - see this link for instructions for PC/Mac:).

    Access to the captive portals/acceptance pages are only allowed from the GUEST network, it will not work from public (4g etc), uniwide or eduroam. If a link isn't working, ensure you are on 鶹madou Guest SSID.

    Ensure that MAC randomisation is disabled. A static MAC address is required to connect consistently.

    Step 6 -For the ‘Select certificate’ field you can chooseUse System Certificateif this option is available, otherwise chooseDon't validate.To ensure your connecting to the correct service please ensure that you are seeing this certificate when connecting:

    Step 6.1 -How to Install the certificate:

    1. Download thecertificate

    2. If your device does not automatically open the downloaded certificate file, you may need to manually tap the file name you download "鶹madou_Root.crt" to install the certificate. You may be asked for your device's password/PIN/biometric authentication (e.g. fingerprint) to authorise the installation process.

    3. Optionally give a name for the "Certificate name:". You can give it any name ( e.g.: "unsw wifi" ) which will only be for you to identify it when you need to select it from the user certificate drop-down menu.

    4. Connect to uniwide or eduroam as per the above settings. When you get to the Select Certificate dropdown, you should now also see the new "unsw wifi" certificate that you've previously installed and be able select it.

    Step 7 -Leave the Anonymous identity field blank

    Step 8 -Enter your 鶹madouzID@unsw.edu.au(Staff or Student number)in the Identityfield

    Step 9 -Enter your 鶹madouzID Passwordin thepasswordfield

    Step 10-If asked for Domain, please use one of the following:

    • radius.net.unsw.edu.au
    • net.unsw.edu.au
    • unsw.edu.au

    Step 11 -TickAuto-reconnectto ensure that it is on

    Your Android should now be connected to Eduroam or Uniwide.

    Alternatively you install the ROOT certificate.

  • Step 1-Tap theSettingsicon on the 鶹madou screen of your device

    Step 2 -TapWi-Fiin your settings

    Step 3 -TapEduroamorUniwideto select the鶹madou Wi-Finetwork

    Step 4-Enter your鶹madouzID@unsw.edu.auin the username fieldand yourzID password

    Step 5-TapJoin

    Step 6-TapTrustto trust the certificate.

    Your iPhone/IOS Device should now be connected toEduroam or Uniwide.

  • Step 1-Click on thewireless networkicon in the Windows taskbar

    Step 2 -Click on the option forEduroamorUniwide, click totick the checkboxnext to ‘Connect automatically,’and then click 'Connect'

    Step 3 -If prompted, click the'Connect'button on the Windows alert confirming that you want to connect Uniwide in this location

    Step 4 -Enter your 鶹madouzID@unsw.edu.auas your username

    Step 5 -Enter yourzID Passwordin the passwordfield

    Step 6 -Click 'OK'

    Your PC is now connected toEduroamorUniwide.

  • If you are having trouble connecting to the wireless, one thing to try is to forget the wireless network and try again.

  • Step 1-Right click theNetworkManagericon (nm‐applet) in your taskbar. Ensure there's a tick next to bothEnable NetworkingandEnable Wireless

    Step 2 -Left click theNetworkManagericon, then clickeduroam. To connect to a different network clickConnect to Other Wireless Networkand configure the settings

    Step 3 -Save thecertificateto your local hard disk

    Step 4 -In the dialogue box complete the fields in the table above

    Step 5 -Connect to eduroam. TheNetworkManagerwill automatically connect to the first wireless network it finds in range and for which it has been configured:

  • I'm prompted for a password

    Step 1- Please enter your currentzID Password

    Step 2 -You will see this prompt after changing your 鶹madou password. If this prompt continually re-appears it may indicate that your IT account is locked. Please contact theIT Service Centreto have your account unlocked.


    I’m receiving a certificate warning

    鶹madou has a requirement to periodically update the certificate used to secure the Wi-Fi network. If your device has an outdated certificate you may receive a notification to update it

    鶹madou has authored their trusted root certificate. To ensure you are connecting to the correct service please ensure that the certificate is similar to the below certificates when connecting.

    Step 1 -Please download

    Step 2 -If your device does not automatically open the downloaded certificate file, you may need to manually tap the file name you download "鶹madou_Root.crt" to install the certificate.     Step 1 -Navigate to the Wi-Fi Settings and Forget the 'network name'Network.

    Step 2 -Go back to the Wi-Fi Settings and Connect to the 'network name' Network, make sure you select theAccept Certificate.
