Helen Holder, 'Guessing Game – Scratch ‘n’ Sniff’, 2024, cAcrylic Paint on Acrylic Perspex, Oil scents, Paint additives. Panels - 80cm x 60cm each.

This series of artworks form a colourful sensory experience. They are the results of iterative experimentation with paint, colour and scent. The panels require the viewer to scratch and smell the artwork, then answer the questions in the book about what they perceive the smell and colour to be. The ephemeral nature of memory is highlighted by the different answers. The viewers expectation of colour is challenged by the biases associated with them, creating a paradox for the viewer.
