The Unobservable’, consists of organically shaped ceramic pieces funconing as both the painng surface and frame. Their oyster-like biomorphic forms are covered in a silver mirrored glaze and surround painngs of electric blue beetle pupa from the family dynasnae. Through this work I wanted to explore my own relaonship with gender as a nonbinary person and ideas around internal or unobservable shis. I was interested in beetle pupae because they appear to be stac yet internally they are undergoing an enormous transformaon as they mature from larvae to their adult form, an experience I felt resonated with experiences of gender.
