Kristy Gordon, Deepwater 2023. Installation of digital drawing as archival pigment print on cotton rag and suspended dimensional drawing of acrylic on carved ply. 240cm x 118cm (print), 160cm x 90cm x 70cm (suspended work).

Artist statement

In Deepwater, my oceanswimming practice inspires exploration of somaesthetic experience through drawing. Embodied gesture and cumulative, repetitive mark-making methods immerse the body and mind in the drawing process, catalysing a flow state where time slows, and the mind revisits immersive nature and the feeling of water. Hand-drawing with digital and power tools challenges traditional notions of fast and slow, revealing how working with fast materials in particular ways propagates new forms of slow experience.
