Overview
The One Defence Capability System requires teams of specialists who operate in an integrated way to deliver new capabilities. The complicated nature of Defence projects often results in the engineering line of effort setting the pace for the work carried out by other functional areas. Specialists in project management and controls, as well as contracting, may not have been exposed to engineering practices and processes, resulting in challenges when coordinating their efforts with the engineering outcomes of the project. This course aims to provide an overview of engineering, engineering practices and processes that will aid in effective communication with engineering teams. Once a foundation has been set, the course will demonstrate how these basic principles are applied through existing Defence contracting mechanisms.Â
Course content
- The engineering profession, competency levels and disciplines.
- An introduction to system engineering principles.
- Management of engineering designs.
- Application of engineering principles through ASDEFCON, including system engineering, configuration management, contract deliverables, mandated reviews and technical data and software rights.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain engineering processes and how they relate to the delivery of acquisition projects.Â
- Understand how engineering processes impact project management practices.Â
- Communicate more effectively within the project team with a common engineering taxonomy.Â
- Understand how specialist input can be integrated with engineering activities included in Defence’s standard contracting formats.
Who should attend
Anyone involved in the One Defence Capability System and delivering defence projects without engineering experience who has a desire to better understand engineering practices and processes.Â
This course will provide knowledge to defence professionals who are planning to create tender documentation, form part of a tender evaluation team or contribute as part of a CASG project team
