WiFi frequently asked questions

  • There will be a new method to connect to the Wi-Fi on Â鶹Éçmadou sites that will enhance security of your connection to the Â鶹Éçmadou network. We will be shifting over to certificate based authentication which is more secure than traditional username and password authentication.

  • Any new devices that you wish to connect to the network will now need to be 'onboarded'. Please refer to the guides for more details on how to do so.

    Any existing connections to Eduroam will remain till password expiry, after which you would need to 'onboard' your device the same way.

  • Step-by-step instructions can be found in the user guides section. Generally, it involves downloading the certificate followed by a few steps to install the certificate on your device.

  • The installation guide will highlight the reconfiguration steps:

    • Android will be configured via the Clearpass QuickConnect app
    • Windows devices will be configured via the Aruba QuickConnect wizard
    • Mac devices and IOS will be configured via the settings as per the instructions
  • Yes, to maintain Â鶹Éçmadou's outstanding cyber security standards, all students and staff must switch to the new certificate based authentication method.

  • The certificates will have an expiry date of 1 year, and will need to be renewed every year.

  • No, the Â鶹Éçmadou-Guest Wi-Fi will not be affected.

  • Â鶹Éçmadou, as the provider and administrator of this Wired or Wireless Network (the Network), is collecting personal information for the following purposes:

    • providing you with access to the Network
    • delivery of personalised services such as wayfinding and smart parking
    • supporting security and safety activities
    • identifying and investigating security vulnerabilities or unauthorised use of the Network
    • auditing, planning, and quality improvement activities.

    This information is personal information for the purposes of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1988 (NSW).  The supply of this information is voluntary, but if you choose not to provide this information you will not be able to access the Network.  Information that we collect from you to enable access to the Network is username, email (in case of guest self-registration), phone (in case of guest self-registration), social media identity (in case of guest login using a social media account), and Display Name/Group Membership/Title.  Information collected through your use of the Network includes location of user (based on proximity to specific access points), Device MAC, Device IP, Device Operating System, and Device Hostname.

    This information will only be accessible by staff who require access for the uses outlined above.  Â鶹Éçmadou is using third party providers, Aruba Central Software as a Service and Azure Platform as a Service to provide services for the Network.  These providers are bound by the University's privacy and security requirements.
