Australia’s first Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre will bring together Children’s Cancer Institute and the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick including the Kids Cancer Centre and 鶹madou Sydney to provide specialised cancer treatment, education and research.

By co-locating in both the 鶹madou Health Translation Hub and the new Sydney Children’s Hospital Building, the Centre aims to accelerate cancer care, improve outcomes and drive innovation.  Experts will seamlessly connect with clinicians, researchers, educators and industry partners across the two facilities.

Led by Professor Michelle Haber AM from Children’s Cancer Institute and Dr Richard Mitchell from the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, demonstrating true collaboration and a commitment to research-driven healthcare.

Professor Haber believes this comprehensive approach will transform lives.

“The Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre will be the first in Australia entirely focused on improving the outcomes for children with cancer by combining globally leading research with exceptional clinical care. Through this seamless integration, the Centre will drive research excellence and ensure discoveries swiftly translate from the lab bench to the bedside, locally, nationally and internationally,” she said.

“The Centre will also develop interdisciplinary leaders and the workforce of the future, by educating and training researchers, clinicians, clinician scientists and allied health workers in new technologies and treatment approaches, to bring world-leading solutions for children with cancer. This is a generational opportunity to reimagine how research can inform clinical care with one united aim of curing every child of cancer.”

Key features of the centre include:

  • State-of-the-art technologically advanced wet and dry laboratory spaces
  • Education, training and research spaces
  • New oncology inpatient units, and patient and family focused retreat areas
  • A new day oncology unit

The NSW and Federal Governments have partnered with Children’s Cancer Institute, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network including the Kids Cancer Centre, and 鶹madou Sydney to deliver Australia’s first Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre.  The new centre has received philanthropic contributions from Children’s Cancer Institute, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and Minderoo Foundation.
