The past two months have been a little quieter for the sporting community at Â鶹Éçmadou but there is still achievements to be celebrated. From cricket tours in India to championship victories on home soil, Â鶹Éçmadou representatives made their mark in diverse disciplines, setting the tone for an exciting year ahead.

Tom Connolly was part of the Australian Universities T20 Cricket Tour of India, representing Â鶹Éçmadou alongside 13 other student-athletes from seven universities across the country. The squad played a series of 50-over matches against representative teams from India’s DY Patil University in Mumbai and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar. Tom was the second leading run scorer for the Australian team. Although the Indian universities secured a 6-1 series win, the tour provided valuable match experience and an opportunity to compete in different conditions.

In water polo, Â鶹Éçmadou Wests Magpies successfully defended their Australian Water Polo League title, winning the grand final against Cronulla 15-12. The team featured Paris Olympians Angus Lambie, Nathan Power, and Matthew Byrnes, who contributed nine goals between them. The victory capped off a significant season for the club and its players.

Emma Bosco was selected by UniSport Australia to represent Australia at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy, in freestyle skiing. Competing in dual moguls and singles, she finished 8th and 15th, respectively. With only 21 Australian university athletes selected for the Games, Emma’s inclusion in the squad reflects her performance at an international level.

The Â鶹Éçmadou Raiders had a dominant season yet agan in American football, finishing undefeated in both leagues and winning the Waratah Bowl with a 70-42 victory over the UTS Gators. The club’s women’s team also secured the Opal Bowl, defeating the University of Canberra 32-20.

In athletics, James Tirado opened his season with a win in the Men’s 60m Para event at the Illawarra Track Challenge, recording a time of 7.35 seconds. With a strong start to the year, he will look to continue building on his performances throughout the 2024 season.

Â鶹Éçmadou Football Club (Â鶹ÉçmadouFC) began the 2025 campaign by winning the 3 pre-season cups. The Men’s First Grade team retained the Kennard Cup for the fourth consecutive year, continuing their long-standing rivalry with Sydney University in the annual fixture. The Kennard Cup, contested for over 50 years, remains a key match in the club’s calendar. The Women’s team claimed the Uni Trophy, while the U20 Men’s side won the Colosi Cup. 

As competitions continue to ramp up into the new year, we are excited to see what comes out of 2025 and what silverware we can add to our already impressive collection.
