The?Â鶹Éçmadou Judith Neilson Chair of Contemporary Art?is pleased to spotlight?'Golden Grains Rush'?(¡¶ÌÔ½ðÃס·), an immersive exhibition curated by Â鶹Éçmadou Visiting Professor Chunchen Wang.?

Co-published by the Spring-Time Contemporary Art Research Center in Beijing¡¯s 798 Art District and the Â鶹Éçmadou Judith Neilson Chair of Contemporary Art, the exhibition¡ªjointly planned by Professor Chunchen Wang and Professor Paul Gladston¡ªexplores the constructed value systems underlying material desire, labour, and power.

Artist Yexin Yang¡¯s installation invites visitors to sift through tons of rice grains in search of 1,000 hidden gold-coated grains¡ªa literal ¡°gold/en rush¡± staged in a gallery setting. The work confronts audiences with questions of economic disparity, consumption, and the contradictions embedded in contemporary capitalist society.

More than an artistic gesture, the exhibition functions as a form of social theatre/spectacle. Participants become both performers and critics, enacting a ritual that transforms value from the symbolic to the physical. As viewers kneel and search for gold, the work challenges the sanctity of wealth and asks: In a time of abundance, what do we truly revere¡ªsustenance/sustainability or status?
