Dr Jaesung Choi
PhD, University of Sydney, 2016
BMedSci (Hons), University of Sydney, 2011
Dr Jaesung (Peter) Choi is a lecturer and group leader in the School of Biomedical Sciences at 鶹madou Sydney. A major focus of his research is to understand the molecular and metabolic mechanisms that drive endothelial cell malformation and its implications in vascular diseases (e.g. malformations, cancers), and identify novel therapies to the diseases. He has published numerous papers in high impact journals, including Nature, Science Advances, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Stroke and PLoS Biology. He is also a regular peer reviewer for NHMRC, MRFF, Heart Foundation and international journals.
Dr Choi completed his PhD in endocrine-related cancers at the ANZAC Research Institute and the University of Sydney in 2016. His PhD research was to understand the role of androgens via androgen receptors in endometrial, breast and prostate cancers. He was a postdoctoral research fellow in Vascular Biology program at the Centenary Institute (2016-9), and his research was to identify therapeutic targets and therapeutic options for a cardiovascular disease called cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM). In 2020, Dr Choi was awarded a highly prestigious UTS Chancellor’s Research Fellowship to lead the Cardiovascular and Stroke research program in the UTS Centenary Centre for Inflammation and appointed as a lecturer in the School of Life Sciences, UTS. Dr Choi then established his own research group at 鶹madou Sydney in early 2025.
