Kemal Atlay is a Media, Communications, and Events Officer at NDARC, Â鶹Éçmadou.

Seb joined NDARC in 2022 and is the Digital Product Officer for NCCRED, working on the digital development of the Prompt Response Network and the S-Check app. Before joining NDARC he was Product Lead for Student Minds, the UK's student mental health charity, and has also worked at Australian Red Cross in the digital products team. 

Tori is the Senior Administrative Officer to the Office of the Director at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC), Â鶹Éçmadou Sydney. She provides support to Professor Michael Farrell, NDARC's Director, the Research Director, the two Deputy Directors, and the Centre's Operational Manager. Tori joined NDARC in 2010 and has worked in a variety of roles since then. Prior to her appointment at NDARC, Tori worked in private and public sector roles in the UK, including HR, Project, and Operational management.

Saumya is the Clinical Trials Coordinator for the Tobbaco cessation group.

Ed Broadbent is the PRN Project Officer for NCCRED. Ed has extensive experience in mental health, health promotion, emerging drugs (AOD), development, and education. He has demonstrated a strong aptitude for directing and leading impactful national and grassroots projects that foster healthy, connected, and sustainable communities. Ed is passionate about driving positive change through evidence-informed design, collaborative development, and impact-focused evaluation, continuously striving to create meaningful, long-lasting improvements in public health and community wellbeing.

Simon joined NDARC in 2021 as a Research Assistant in the Tobacco Research Group, working on two large randomised studies, the Vaporised Nicotine product study and the forthcoming Tailored Text Message study. He has a BMedia (Hons) from Macquarie University and has an ongoing interest in qualitative and quantitative research in a number of areas.

Kali joined NDARC in 2021 and is working in the Drug Trends team as the NSW Coordinator for Ecstasy and Related Drug Reporting System (EDRS) and the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS). She has a public health policy background and has worked for multiple community-based organisations to develop and advocate for evidence-based and rights-based public health policies impacting marginalised communities. Kali has a strong interest in harm reduction, reducing stigma and discrimination against marginalised communities, and producing research that supports people-centred public health policies.

Agata Chrzanowska is a senior researcher at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) in Sydney. She joined NDARC as a Research Officer in December 2018. She skillfully manages hospital and treatment administrative databases and cause-of-death data under the Drug Trends program. Her work involves data management, statistical analyses, and the preparation of reports and other outputs. Agata’s work contributes significantly to understanding drug trends and their impact. Agata completed her Master's degree in Biostatistics from the University of Sydney in 2018. With several years of experience in public health, she has worked on various independent research projects across different domains.

Laura is the Communications and Events Officer at NDARC, having joined in 2023. She organises events like the Annual Research Symposium and weekly online seminars. Previously, she was a Communications Coordinator at Fresh Hope Communities, where she focussed on enhancing community engagement. Laura is passionate about connecting research insights with community involvement and making a positive social impact.

Andrea is the Executive Assistant for NCCRED. She has a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Psychosocial Management Specialisation from the University of Nariño (Colombia).

Dr Amy Gibson is an epidemiologist with extensive experience in academic research, research support, and postgraduate teaching in the university setting. She holds undergraduate degrees in Bachelor of Science (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts. Dr Gibson completed her Master of Public Health at the University of Sydney in 2004 and earned her PhD from Â鶹Éçmadou Sydney in 2009. With over 20 years of experience in clinical and linked data public health research, she has collaborated with multidisciplinary teams and has held positions at the Centre for Big Data Research in Health, School of Population Health, Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity, and the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at Â鶹Éçmadou Sydney.

Jemma Hallen is the Project Manager for NCCRED and has a Bachelor of Media (PR & Advertising). She started as the Executive Assistant to the Director and was moved to the Project Officer role in September 2020 after acting in that role for 11 months. She was then promoted to Project Manager in September 2021.

Bridget joined the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre in 2020, working in the Tobacco Research Group. She obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree from The University of Melbourne in 2019. She is currently working on the Quit Smoking Study, a large randomised controlled trial investigating the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and safety of Vaporised Nicotine Products in comparison with Nicotine Replacement Therapy, in Australian low-socioeconomic populations of current daily smokers.

Since 2018, Ms Nicola Jones (Nikky), has been working as a Biostatistician at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, University of New South Wales. Primary role has involved the statistical design and analysis for studies using the Opioid Agonist Treatment and Safety (OATS) Study. The OATS study is a data linkage study and aims to quantify the risk of mortality (all-cause, fatal overdose and suicide) and other adverse outcomes such as: overdose; self-harm; and injecting related diseases; using individuals registered in the NSW Controlled Drugs Data Collection (CoDDaC) for opioid dependence.

Dora is a public health professional with expertise in research & knowledge translation, learning & development, vocational education and training, learning design and all types of writing for the health and community sector; Dora also worked for more than 10 years in the Youth Alcohol and Other Drug sector and in Harm Reduction service delivery.

Toni Karlsson joined NDARC in September 2013. She is currently working as the co-ordinator for the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) and the Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS) for South Australia. Prior to this, Toni worked across a number of opioid-related projects, including the National Opioid Medications Abuse Deterrence (NOMAD) study, the Pharmaceutical Opioid Users in Treatment (POUT) study, and a pilot trial of the cost-effectiveness of two interventions to improve GPs prescribing of pharmaceutical opioids. Toni completed her Master's Degree in Health Science (Clinical Data Management) through the University of Sydney. Preceding this, Toni completed her Bachelor's Degree in Applied Science (Health Information Management), also through the University of Sydney.

Gift joined the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre as a Research Officer for the Tina Trial, a clinical trial that is designed to see whether mirtazapine can be used for methamphetamine dependence. Prior to this, Gift completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Master of Public Health at the University of Western Australia.

Harriet joined NCCRED as a Research Assistant in 2023 following a BSc in pharmacology and neuroscience at USyd.

Jelynn joined NDARC in November 2011 as an Administrative Assistant and currently works as an Administrative Officer. 

Prior to working at NDARC, Jelynn has also worked for Â鶹Éçmadou at the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre, the Grants Management Office and the Policy Management Unit.

Mia Miller is a public health researcher with 6 years' experience in alcohol and other drugs research, and a background working for the Australian Government Department of Health and the National Health and Medical Research Centre (NHMRC) in both cancer screening and infectious diseases policy. She is a mixed-methods researcher working on alcohol policy research at NDARC, with a focus on alcohol pricing, alcohol marketing and no- and low-alcohol beverages (NoLos). She convenes the International Research Network on NoLos, which comprises over 40 researchers across 5 continents.

Lily Palmer is a Research Officer for the Tina Trial, a clinical trial of mirtazapine for methamphetamine dependence (tinarial.info), based in Perth. Lily has previously worked on the Ecstasy and Related Drug Reporting System (EDRS) and the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) as a telephone interviewer. She has also previously been involved in research areas such as justice health and prevention and early intervention. Lily is an IUHPE-accredited Health Promotion Practitioner, who sits on the Australian Health Promotion Association WA Branch committee.

Olivia joined the Drug Trends team in 2019 as a Research Officer and Northern Territory coordinator for the Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System. Prior to this, she worked in infectious diseases epidemiology at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza, located at the Doherty Institute. Her primary research interest is prevention of infectious disease among key populations, including people who inject drugs. In 2022, Olivia commenced her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Louisa Degenhardt and A/Prof. Amy Peacock, and remains on the Drug Trends team in a part-time capacity. 

Josephine joined NDARC in 2022 and is currently working on the 'The Quit Smoking Study' and 'The Quit By Phone Study' with the Tobacco Research group. Josephine has obtained a Masters of Research in Anthropology (High Distinction) from Macquarie University (2019), where she also received the shared Ian Bedford 'best thesis award,' for academic excellence in the second year of the Masters of Research. Josephine researched the contested neurological illness, 'Body Integrity Identity Disorder' and focused on biomedical culture, embodiment and phenomenology, patient illness narratives and explanatory models. 

Josephine is also an experienced academic content tutor, having previously worked as tutor for Indigenous students from the 'Wuyagiba Study Hub'; a two-way learning initiative between elders and students from South-East Arnham land and Macquarie University. Josephine remains passionate about qualitative research and developing a PhD project in the areas of lived-experiences, medical and psychological anthropology, palliative care, chronicity and pain, structural violence, social determinants of disease and promoting inclusive cross-cultural models in mental health and AOD services. 

Vanessa Romeo is a Research Officer for the Tina Trial, a clinical trial of mirtazapine for methamphetamine dependence (tinatrial.info), based in Adelaide. She has a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Hons), a Postgraduate Diploma of Addiction and Mental Health, and is currently working towards a Master's degree in Biostatistics.

Lucy Saunders Joined NDARC in 2021 as the Project Coordinator for the Tina Trial, a multi-site phase three clinical trial of mirtazapine for methamphetamine dependence (tinarial.info). Lucy has previously coordinated large scale multi site clinical trials for depression, bipolar disorder, dietary interventions and online interventions at Deakin University. She has also worked on the N-ICE trial of NAC for methamphetamine dependence.

Lucy Tran joined the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at University of New South Wales in February 2018 and is currently working as a Research Officer. She has a strong interest in the mental health and drug and alcohol fields. Lucy commenced a PhD in 2022 with an aim to explore the association between mental health and substance use comorbidities and treatment. 

Lucy completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at the University of New South Wales in 2017 and a Masters of Clinical Psychology at the University of Tasmania in 2022.

Julia Uporova joined NDARC in March 2017 as a Research Officer and is currently working as the coordinator of the Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS) and the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) for the Australian Capital Territory. Julia completed her Master Degree in Neuroscience from King’s College London (UK) in 2015 and prior to this accomplished her Bachelor (Hons) Degree in Psychology from Goldsmiths, University of London (UK) in 2014.

Morgaine is the Senior Communications Officer at NDARC. She joined the Centre in 2017 and oversees media, communications and events activity. 

Prior to this, Morgaine worked as a Senior Media Advisor with the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources in South Australia, and managed media and digital communications for the Botanic Gardens of South Australia.

Paige obtained a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) degree from Macquarie University in 2019. For her honours project she conducted a rodent model of methamphetamine self-administration following a period of adolescent isolation. She joined NDARC as a research assistant in 2020 and has since commenced her PhD in 2022. The focus of her PhD will be to explore the impact of methamphetamine use on the family of people who use it. She is passionate about reducing stigma surrounding drug use and dependence, for both people who use drugs and their loved ones.

Emma Zahra is a Research Officer at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC), Faculty of Medicine, Â鶹Éçmadou. Her research focus is drug-related morbidity, mortality and mental health. She is passionate about improving health outcomes through evidence-based intervention, advocacy, support, empowerment and equality.
