Professor Les Field is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales.

He is a graduate of the University of Sydney and following posts at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and then at Oxford, he took up a position at the University of Sydney in 1982.

During his time at Sydney, he was Head of the School of Chemistry from 1997 to 2001 and held the positions of Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Science, Chair of the University Research Committee, Deputy Chair of the Academic Board and Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research).

In 2005, he moved to the University of New South Wales where he was Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) until 2016 and Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor until 2018.

His main areas of research are organometallic chemistry, catalysis and NMR spectroscopy. He is the author of more than 200 scientific papers, 6 textbooks and a number of book chapters.
